U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed that he recently held a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding efforts to resolve the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, though he declined to disclose details of the exchange.
Speaking during a public address, Trump described the relationship between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as deeply strained, attributing the prolonged conflict partly to personal animosity.
“The hatred between President Putin and President Zelensky is ridiculous—it’s crazy,” Trump said. “Hate is a bad thing when you’re trying to settle something. But it’ll happen.”
While confirming that he has maintained communication with both leaders, Trump emphasized that the discussions have been “good,” suggesting ongoing diplomatic engagement behind the scenes.
However, he firmly refused to provide specifics about his most recent call with Putin.“I don’t want to reveal that,” he stated. “But I do have conversations with him and with President Zelensky.”
Trump also used the opportunity to highlight his past claims of mediating international conflicts, asserting that he had previously “settled eight wars,” including tensions between India and Pakistan, which he suggested could have escalated into a nuclear confrontation.
Despite expressing confidence in his negotiation abilities, Trump acknowledged that resolving the Russia-Ukraine war has proven far more difficult than expected.
“That’s the one I would have thought was the easiest,” he said. “But it really is the most difficult.”
The comments come amid ongoing global concern over the war, which has continued to strain international relations and fuel geopolitical instability.
Trump’s remarks, while lacking detail, indicate that informal lines of communication between key figures may still be active as efforts to end the conflict persist.
