Students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) have taken to the streets in protest following the alleged death of a fellow student who was reportedly beaten by members of the Man O’ War in Owerri, Imo State.

The protest, which drew a large number of students, was sparked by reports circulating on social media claiming that the student died after being assaulted over an accusation of stealing ₦13,000.

The identity of the deceased had not been officially disclosed at the time of filing this report but sources shows the image of the person in this news report according to the video.

According to accounts shared by students, the victim was allegedly apprehended by Man O’ War personnel over the missing money and was subjected to severe physical punishment.

The reports further alleged that the beating became fatal, leading to the student’s death. Angered by the development, students marched across parts of the university community carrying placards and chanting slogans, including “Say No to Man O’ War.”

Many of the protesters questioned why an allegation involving such a relatively small amount of money could allegedly escalate into an incident resulting in the loss of a young life.

Several students described the incident as disturbing and unacceptable, calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

They also demanded that anyone found responsible be held accountable under the law. The protest caused tension within the university environment as students expressed fears about safety and the use of excessive force by security-related personnel.

Some protesters insisted that justice must be served to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

As public outrage continues to grow, many are awaiting official statements from the university authorities, security agencies, and the Man O’ War organization regarding the allegations.

At the time of this report, the claims surrounding the student’s death had not been independently verified, and authorities had yet to release a detailed account of the incident. Watch video here
