Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has alleged that the ongoing legal troubles involving social media personality Blord may have deeper political undertones tied to his past comments about the “City Boys” movement, a group associated with supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking after recent developments surrounding the case involving influencer VeryDarkMan, Sowore claimed that authorities may be using the situation as a pretext to target Blord over a previously circulated video in which he reportedly vowed never to align himself with the pro-Tinubu “City Boys” movement.
According to Sowore, the remark may have triggered backlash from political loyalists, suggesting that Blord’s stance was perceived as defiance.
“They gave him the impression that he thought he was wise,” Sowore said, pointing to what he described as growing political interference in what should ordinarily be a civil matter.
The activist further raised concerns about due process, alleging that judicial and law enforcement institutions may have acted improperly.
He criticized what he described as the misuse of legal mechanisms to detain individuals unnecessarily, warning against a system where judges, police, and prison officials could “connive” to suppress perceived dissent.
Sowore also addressed his relationship with VeryDarkMan, revealing that he had previously intervened on his behalf on two separate occasions without seeking personal recognition.
Despite recent tensions, he emphasized that his stance is rooted in principle rather than personal grievance. “I don’t care whether he insults me or not,” Sowore stated, insisting that the fundamental issue is the protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms.
He stressed that no individual should face oppression or politically motivated prosecution, regardless of their affiliations or public statements.
The activist concluded by calling for justice and transparency, urging authorities to ensure that legal processes are not weaponized against citizens.
He maintained that the matter should be resolved swiftly and fairly, in line with the rule of law.
The controversy continues to spark debate online, with many Nigerians questioning whether the case reflects broader concerns about political influence within the justice system.
