The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public warning to consumers following the recall of Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles over the presence of undeclared milk and egg allergens.
In a public alert numbered 041/2025 and dated December 18, 2025, NAFDAC disclosed that the recall was initiated by Rappel Conso of France, the country’s food safety authority, after laboratory tests detected milk and egg components not declared on the product’s label.
The omission, the agency said, poses serious health risks to individuals with food allergies or intolerances.
According to NAFDAC, the recall affects all batches of Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles with a best-before date of February 6, 2026.
The country of origin was not specified in the recall notice. Indomie noodles, which were first introduced in 1972, have grown into one of the most widely consumed instant noodle brands globally and remain a household staple in many countries due to their affordability, convenience, and versatility.
However, NAFDAC warned that the presence of undeclared allergens such as milk and eggs could trigger severe allergic reactions in susceptible consumers.
In its statement, the agency explained that although Nigeria currently enforces a ban on noodle importation—making the official entry of the affected product into the country unlikely—there is still a risk of illegal importation or personal purchases through online platforms and international travel.
“NAFDAC is informing the public that the French Authority issued a notice regarding the recall of Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles due to the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs,” the statement said.
“These allergens may cause serious health complications in consumers with allergies or intolerances.”
To address the potential risk, NAFDAC said it has activated nationwide surveillance measures. Zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to intensify monitoring efforts and immediately seize any affected products found within Nigeria.
“Distributors, retailers, and consumers are advised to exercise caution across the supply chain to prevent the distribution, sale, or consumption of the recalled product,” the agency stated.
“Consumers who encounter the affected Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles are advised not to consume them and to discard them immediately.”
Members of the public were also urged to report any sightings or suspected sales of the recalled noodles to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the agency’s toll-free line, 0800-162-3322.
Adverse reactions linked to the product should be reported through NAFDAC offices or the agency’s official e-reporting platforms.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and encouraged consumers to remain vigilant, particularly when purchasing food products from informal or unauthorized sources.
